Equity and Social Science

In this workshop, we discuss Ableism, a form of discrimination and implicit bias against people with Disabilities. We further discuss strategies that can be used to decrease it's development in young children.

"Are we there yet?"  This classic question of young children can be answered by teaching children to understand the concepts of maps and locations.  When children are introduced to these concepts they often become fascinated by creating 2D and 3D representations of the world around them.

Where is it happening?

  • Navigating to familiar places
  • Caring for the Environment
  • Maps

Children love to act out shopping. What are the opportunities for learning while they play and what concepts are young children able to understand about money? In this workshop we explore a wide range of topics, including:

  • Money/bartering
  • Dramatic Play
  • Creating opportunities in the classroom

Children's Literature is a unique resource to help young children learn about themselves, their families and a diverse world.  In this workshop we will review a wide range of children's books and discuss how adults can use them to support an anti-bias curriculum in early childhood education settings.
